Your GP can arrange appropriate imaging and provide a referral to a breast surgeon in Mackay if needed.


Yes. A referral from your general practitioner or another medical practitioner is required to book an appointment. This allows relevant investigations and imaging to be reviewed prior to your consultation.

Yes. Dr Wendela Schimmer provides surgical management for breast cancer in Mackay, working closely with a multidisciplinary team including radiologists, oncologists, pathologists, and BreastScreen Queensland to ensure coordinated care.


Consultations and surgical procedures are performed locally in Mackay, Queensland, including at private hospital facilities as appropriate. Specific locations will be discussed at the time of referral and booking.


No. Many breast lumps are benign and do not require surgery. Dr Schimmer will carefully assess each case and recommend surgery only when clinically indicated.


A standard GP referral is valid for 12 months, while referrals from other specialists are valid for 3 months, unless otherwise specified.


Yes. Patients are welcome to bring a support person to their appointment if they wish.
